WITH THE GULF OF THAILAND LAPPING ITS PRISTINE BEACHES, SAMUI IS A SEA-KISSED JEWEL OF AN ISLAND.

Long before it became the first Thai island to be a luxury destination, Koh Samui was a collection of rubber-tree plantations and fishing villages. Even now, the time-honored rhythms of rural Thai life still hold sway, with experiences in tune with the tides and each day’s breathtaking sunrise and sunset.

BOPHUT
Bophut

Located on Koh Samui’s quieter northern shores, the heart of this charming town is the picturesque Fisherman’s Village, a collection of well-preserved, 19th-century Chinese-Thai houses that are now home to gourmet restaurants and hip boutiques. The town also boasts one of the island’s best beaches – and it’s less crowded than some of the southern ones.

CANOPY ADVENTURES
Canopy Adventures

Touting itself as Asia’s first zip-line, this eco-friendly adventure outfitter offers a chance to see Koh Samui’s awe-inspiring natural beauty from another perspective. Soar through the treetops of the unspoilt rainforest on the northern part of the island, peeking at untouched waterfalls and getting views normally reserved for monkeys and birds.

NA MUANG WATERFALL
Na Muang Waterfall

In the middle of the island, tucked away amidst Koh Samui’s jungle-covered hills, the tallest waterfall on the island cascades across rocks and into a secluded pool. The name Na Muang refers to the rich purple-bronze color of the rock faces over which the water tumbles. The lower part of the fall, easily reached on foot, drops into a pool that’s popular for swimming, while the steeper, higher fall can be reached by a hike or an elephant ride.
